What does this error message mean?
failed: Hot copy failed: Node ##: <backup-path>/####.cat: Unable to create archive directory: Broken pipe
This error message points out an NFS problem.
"Broken pipe" error message is generated when the writing process is trying to write data to a pipe for which there is no read process, then the sigpipe signal is received which is translated into the "Broken pipe" message. When NFS is used then "broken pipe" error means that you are trying to write on a closed socket. In such cases, you need to investigate the communication between the NFS client and the NFS server and for system errors. (From Linux man-pages: SIGPIPE - P1990 Term Broken pipe: write to pipe with no readers; see pipe(7)).
To narrow down the problem, check the logs at:
NFS server: /var/log/syslog, /var/log/messages (or wherever NFS logs to). Type dmesg and check the output.
NFS client (the SM): dmesg, /var/log/syslog, /var/log/messages (or wherever NFS logs to)
In case you have another SM (archive) on a separate node, try to run the hotcopy on it using NFS as well. If NFS is set correctly it should run without any issues. You can compare the NFS settings on both nodes, update the settings on the node that presents the error message according to the NFS settings for the node that doesn't present the error message.
