{answer}

It may happen when the archive size is huge and for some reason, the SM was not shut down gracefully. In this case, the next SM startup will require a recovery for journal files.

You may find in your agent.log file lines like these:

Incomplete Message 22921772/717, start pos 40921, end pos 40997 in journal file: "/opt/nuodb/archives/journal/49aa4554-cace-8642-b6a9-b6106ff29a1f/njf_4/4356.njf"
Recovered: 347 files (2034 blocks, 22921771 messages): 22898818 messages (1383632968 bytes) applied in 270531 ms

If/when you get this message, please wait a few minutes for the recovery process to complete, the SM process will be up and running as soon as the all journal files recovery completed.

In a future release, an appropriate message will be given in this case.
